Discovering I could write was the most incredible feeling I've ever had. I spent years playing drums and composing songs in one rock-an'-roll band after another, touring the UK, Europe and parts of the US. It was an amazing experience and, as you can imagine, saw a lot of life. But living out of a suitcase was exhausting and I needed a change. So the revelation that people actually liked my writing, was life altering.
To this day the only time I'm ever really happy, is when I'm deep in story. That's what I want you to feel. To experience that emotion. The unbridled happiness and satisfaction it brings when you finish your script, play or novel. You can't write to be successful. You write because you need to. Because the story inside you, and the characters voicing the dialogue, will not be silenced. That's why we write, for love of the craft.
